Chicken Soup for the Soul:

Here comes winter - log fires, washing that won't dry, cold mornings and short days. This is the time of year we just want to crawl into a dry warm cave and sleep until Spring time.  Want some really good free advice?

Don't try it, it's not all its cracked up to be.

Instead try this;
open this news letter and with a big bold red pen in one hand start to circle the dates, events and places to be. I'm hoping that our winter ministries will be a time of warming the heart and defrosting the soul.

One of the most reliable ways known to keep the heart close to the Lord is to be involved in reaching out to others, filling in the gaps where help is needed and rolling up the sleeves when work has to be done. We have a list of events that need your support, input, feedback and help and in it all I know we'll grow richer in our souls because of it.

This month on the Avenue...

Youth Explosion
Queen's Birthday Weekend Camp - keep our campers in prayer for blessing and safety.

Youth with a Mission  18-23 July
This is going to be a blast and no matter who you are, you're going to find it hard to avoid these special days.

We are hosting 6 University Students from the USA who are enrolled in Nazarene Universities.  They are travelling at their own cost to spend part of their annual holiday ministering in New Zealand.  Our Church is the first to receive them as they begin their New Zealand tour.

Number One: We need 6 homes to house these young people.

Number Two: We need you to stop at the information table and notice board and scan through the packed events that you just won't want to miss.  There's just way too much information to list here, so grab an info sheet on your way out.

Number Three: Make a list of people you want to invite to these events.

See the information table for copies of the itinerary.

Nazarene Youth Congress:
January 18 - 23, 2004.
Sunshine Coast, Australia.
Young people across the South Pacific, Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand are saving like crazy to get to the world famous Sunshine Coast in January 2004.

Youth Congress is an amazing experience.  Several hundred young people will swamp the Coast area for a week of amazing adventure.

Friendships are made, waves are surfed, Bibles are opened and songs are sung  (well actually rap is more accurate).

Camp fees and airfares are approximately $1000 per teenager.  Sounds a lot but add up what a teenage spends in a year on 'entertainments' and it leaves only a little fund raising to be done.

Make this your prayer goal.  It is worth it!

Missionaries to Bangladesh
Just say those words and we think of Susie and Lewis Varley.  Just twelve months ago we waved them goodbye as a newly married couple heading to Bangladesh with half opened wedding gifts and a stack of great memories from their time at home.  Varleys return to New Zealand in July to rest and give birth.  Now that's a challenge for even the most modern online missionaries.  Baby Varley will be born a Kiwi and what a legacy that will be.

At this time of year we begin to prepare for our Missionary Offering.  Would you prayerfully consider how you would like to financially support this wonderful couple.  Last year the offering was great.  Let's really be challenged to be part of this special dedicated offering.  Envelopes will be available at the information table.

Phone trouble...
An additional phone service has been added to make calling the pastor easier.

Nothing But Praise...
Sunday June 29th.
Being the 5th Sunday of the month we dedicate the Sunday morning to praise, testimonies and prayer.

Please add your favourite songs to the list at the Information Table.

Hymns
Hymns breathe the praise of the saints
The vision of the prophets
The prayers of the penitent and the spirit of the martyrs.
They bring solace to the sad, assurance to the perplexed, faith to the doubter and comfort to the oppressed.
They span the centuries of history and bridge the barriers of denominations.
Study them to be pure in heart.
Sing them to be joyful.
Store them in the mind to possess a treasury of worship
