Work & Witness Tonga

It's been just a thrill for our church to be involved with the Tonga Project.  We truly appreciated Paul's report of the Mango Tree Ministry Centre to the disabled members of the community.

Thanks to all who got behind the project with finance and prayer.

This Month on the Avenue

Update on Mendi
In 1994 and 2000 we supported two teams to Mendi in the Southern Highland Province of Papua New Guinea.  Dr. Neville Bartle returned from there last weekend and has a great up date for us.

Mendi has so often been a town torn apart by tribal warfare.  So seeing a church and house established there met with consistent opposition.  It is so good to hear Neville report on the church being so full they are needing to extend the building.  Pastor Manus has an elementary school running with 200 students.  The church is a centre for teaching on Aids Awareness as well as a centre for Peace Mission initiatives.  The local minister's fraternal also use the church as a centre.

All of this progress has come in the years that have followed the early teams that really worked so hard.  Isn't it great to be able to look back at such worthwhile investments.

Bangladesh and the Varleys
Susie and Lewis have recently had a small holiday.  Lewis has over come dengue fever and while he has low immunity is doing very well.  We need to pray for them as they minister to that massive population. Bangladesh is currently facing severe floods.

Ministry Education Centre Opens in Auckland
Five new Nazarene congregations have emerged over the past 7 months.  One that is really interesting is the Pakuranga group under the leadership of Rev Graham and Sylvia Holliday.  Hollidays are Government registered counsellors and are currently renovating the church house.  Renovations have allowed a Ministry training and Worship centre to be developed. This will be a training centre for students preparing for ministry who either cannot attend Nazarene Theological College Australia or English is a second language.   A prospectus of courses will soon be available.  The training centre comes under the umbrella of Australia New Zealand Nazarene Theological College in Brisbane.
